Privacy Policy
Effective: May 12, 2026
The short version
Cutman collects:
- Your email address, when you sign up for the waitlist or notify list.
- Your conversations with Cutman’s AI features, which are sent to a third-party AI provider so they can be processed and replied to.
- Your saved drafts and the information you provide about the person they’re addressed to. Both stay on your phone unless you delete them.
- Basic technical information that any website or app automatically receives.
We don’t sell your data. We don’t share it for marketing. We don’t train AI models on what you write to Cutman. You can delete everything anytime.
That’s the whole policy in a paragraph. Everything below says the same thing in more formal language and covers edge cases.
Who we are
“Cutman,” “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to the team building the Cutman app and operating the website at getcutman.com. If you need to contact us about your data, write to: support@getcutman.com.
What we collect, and when
On the website (getcutman.com)
When you sign up for the waitlist on the homepage, or for the notify list on the /notify page, we collect:
- Your email address
- The form you signed up through (waitlist or notify), so we know which message to send you
When you visit any page on the site, we automatically receive (like any website does):
- Your IP address
- Your browser type and operating system
- The page you came from
- The time of your visit
This automatic information is used for security and basic analytics only. It is not tied to your email or your identity.
In the app (Cutman for iOS and Android)
The app collects different categories of information for different features.
Account information. When the app launches with subscriptions enabled, we collect:
- Your email address
- A unique account identifier
- Your subscription status (active, canceled, etc.)
We do not currently collect: your name, your phone number, your location, your photos, your contacts, or any health data. We never will, unless this policy is updated to specifically describe what we collect and why.
Cornerman Chat conversations. When you use Cornerman Chat:
- Your messages to Cutman are sent to a third-party AI provider (currently Anthropic, the company that makes Claude) so a response can be generated.
- Cutman’s responses come back to your phone.
- The conversation is stored on your phone for the duration of the session.
- We may retain conversation logs on our server for the purposes of quality monitoring, safety review, and improving the prompts we use. Logs are not used to train AI models.
- If you delete your account, conversation logs are deleted within 30 days.
Panic Button conversations (beta only). The Panic Button is currently in beta and available to a limited group of users. While in beta:
- Panic Button conversations are subject to the same handling as Cornerman Chat.
- Additionally, panic button sessions may be reviewed by Cutman team members for safety. This is specifically to identify cases where the AI failed to handle a crisis signal correctly. Reviews are conducted with care for your privacy.
- Once the beta ends, this policy will be updated to describe how Panic Button data is handled at scale.
Drafts Folder. When you write a draft in the Drafts Folder:
- The text of your draft is stored locally on your device, not on our servers.
- Drafts are not shared with us, and we cannot read them.
- You can delete drafts anytime from inside the app.
If you use the prediction feature to see what might happen if you send a draft, the text of that draft is sent to a third-party AI provider (Anthropic) to generate the prediction, along with the Her Profile information you provided (see below). The prediction is returned to your phone. We do not retain the draft text or the predictions on our servers.
Her Profile. The Her Profile feature lets you provide information about the person your drafts are addressed to. This is observational behavioral information you provide based on your experiences with that person.
We want to be very clear about how this is handled:
- The Her Profile information is stored locally on your device only.
- It is not sent to our servers.
- It is sent to the third-party AI provider (Anthropic) only at the moment a prediction is generated, and only as input to that prediction.
- We do not retain it on our servers, even temporarily.
- We do not aggregate, analyze, or use it for any purpose other than generating predictions for your drafts.
- The person described in your profile has not consented to your storing information about them. Please use this feature thoughtfully and within the bounds of your relationship.
- You can clear or update your Her Profile anytime from app settings.
Technical information from the app. The app automatically collects, like any app:
- Your device type, OS version, and app version
- Crash reports (anonymized)
- Error logs (anonymized)
This information is used for fixing bugs and improving stability. It is not tied to your identity.
Why we collect what we collect
Each category of information is collected for a specific reason, listed below. We do not collect data for unspecified future purposes.
| What we collect | Why |
|---|---|
| Email address | To send you the waitlist or notify-list email when the app launches. To manage your account once you’re a subscriber. |
| Cornerman Chat messages | To generate AI responses. To monitor for safety failures. To improve the app’s prompts. |
| Panic Button messages (beta) | Same as Cornerman Chat, plus active safety review during the beta period. |
| Drafts text | Stored locally so you can see your past drafts. Sent to AI only when you ask for a prediction. |
| Her Profile information | Stored locally so the prediction feature can use it. Sent to AI only when you ask for a prediction. |
| Subscription status | To manage your account. |
| Technical and crash data | To fix bugs and improve the app. |
| Website analytics (IP, browser, etc.) | To understand basic usage and maintain security. |
Who we share data with
We do not sell your data. We do not share it with advertisers. We do not provide it to data brokers.
The only parties who see your data are:
1. Our infrastructure providers, who store data on our behalf. As of this policy’s effective date, these are:
- Email service: Loops (loops.so)
- Hosting and database: Firebase (Hosting, Firestore, and Authentication), operated by Google
- Website hosting: Firebase Hosting, operated by Google
- Analytics: none currently — we do not run a third-party analytics service. Basic request logs are kept by our hosting provider for security and operations.
These providers process data on our behalf under their own privacy commitments. They cannot use your data for their own purposes.
2. The third-party AI provider that generates Cutman’s responses. This is Anthropic, the company that makes the Claude AI model.
- Your messages to Cutman are sent to Anthropic for processing.
- Anthropic processes the messages and returns responses.
- Anthropic’s privacy policy applies to their handling of the data, in addition to ours.
- Anthropic does not train their models on data sent through the API, per their published API data usage policy.
3. Payment processors, if you become a paying subscriber. As of this policy’s effective date, these are Apple (for iOS subscribers) and Google (for Android subscribers). We do not see or store your payment information.
4. Government or law enforcement, if we are legally required to provide it. We will notify you if this happens, unless we are legally prohibited from doing so.
How long we keep your data
| Data | How long we keep it |
|---|---|
| Email address (waitlist/notify) | Until you unsubscribe or the launch email is sent and unanswered for 12 months |
| Email address (subscriber) | For the life of your account, plus 30 days after deletion |
| Cornerman Chat logs | Up to 90 days for safety monitoring, then deleted |
| Panic Button logs (beta) | Up to 180 days during beta for safety review, then deleted |
| Drafts and Her Profile | Stored on your device until you delete them. Not stored on our servers. |
| Subscription records | As required by tax and accounting law (typically 7 years) |
| Technical and crash data | 90 days, anonymized |
If you delete your account, everything tied to your identity is deleted within 30 days, except subscription records we are required to keep for legal reasons.
Your rights
You can, at any time:
- See what data we have on you (write to us)
- Correct it
- Delete it (delete your account in app settings, or write to us)
- Receive a copy of your data in a portable format (write to us)
- Withdraw consent for AI processing (this means you’d no longer be able to use Cornerman Chat, Panic Button, or the prediction feature, but the rest of the app would still work)
If you are in California, the EU, the UK, or another jurisdiction with specific data protection laws, you may have additional rights under those laws. Contact us and we will honor them.
AI processing — what you should know
Cutman uses AI to generate responses in Cornerman Chat, Panic Button, and the Drafts Folder prediction feature. We want you to understand a few things about this.
The AI is not a human. It is a large language model that has been given specific instructions on how to behave as “Cutman.” It can produce thoughtful, helpful responses, and it can also produce incorrect, unhelpful, or even misleading ones. It does not actually know you. It does not remember conversations between sessions unless you provide context.
The AI is not a therapist. Cutman is not a substitute for therapy, medical care, or professional mental health support. If you need that level of care, please seek it from a licensed professional.
The AI is not a crisis service. If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, please call or text 988 (in the US), or your local crisis line. Cutman will route you to 988 if it detects certain signals, but you should not rely on it as your only safety net.
We monitor AI conversations for safety. Specifically, we may review conversations to:
- Identify cases where the AI failed to handle a sensitive moment well
- Improve our prompts and safety measures
- Investigate reports of harm or misuse
We do this with care for your privacy, and we only retain logs as long as needed for these purposes.
We do not use your conversations to train AI models. Not ours, not anyone else’s.
Information about other people (Her Profile)
The Her Profile feature is unusual in that it asks you to provide information about someone other than yourself. We’ve thought carefully about this and want to be transparent.
- The person described in your profile has not consented to your providing this information.
- The information is behavioral and observational, based on your experiences with them. It is not their personal data in the traditional sense (we don’t ask for their name, contact information, or anything identifying).
- The information is stored only on your device. We never see it on our servers.
- The information is sent to our AI provider only when you request a prediction, and only for the duration of that request.
- We do not aggregate, analyze, share, or otherwise use this information for any purpose other than generating predictions for your drafts.
If you provide information that could identify someone (their name, contact details, photos, etc.), please don’t. The Her Profile feature is designed to work without identifying information, and using it that way protects everyone involved.
Children
Cutman is not intended for, marketed to, or appropriate for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
If you believe a minor has signed up for Cutman or created an account, please write to us at support@getcutman.com and we will delete the record.
Crisis information
If you are reading this because you are in distress: Cutman is not a crisis service.
If you are having thoughts of harming yourself or someone else, please call or text 988 in the United States for the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. They are available 24 hours a day.
Outside the US, please contact your local crisis line. A list of international resources is available at findahelpline.com.
Changes to this policy
We will update this policy when something material changes. Specifically, we expect to update it:
- When the app launches publicly
- When we add new features that collect new types of data
- When we change infrastructure providers
- When we change how AI conversations are handled
When we update the policy, we will:
- Update the “Effective” date at the top
- Notify everyone on our email list before changes take effect
- For major changes, ask you to accept the new policy before continuing to use the app
